Play-Based Approaches to SEL
Social-emotional learning has never been so fun! Great for physical education or out-of-school time contexts, this workshop explores activities and games for elementary students that are active, collaborative, and growth-focused.
Drawing from Adventure Curriculum for Physical Education (ACPE)—a standards-aligned, experiential approach to PE that fosters student growth through adventure-based play and learning - participants will explore core themes by grade level, learn how to connect activities to specific learning outcomes and standards, and discover age-appropriate assessment and reflection tools for use in class.
We’ll also highlight key adaptations and updates from recent years, ensuring the curriculum reflects current best practices for inclusive and accessible education. Educators will leave with practical strategies for integrating play-based learning into their programs and creating a fun, positive, and professional learning environment that supports all students.
Learning Outcomes:
Experience a variety of activities from the ACPE curriculum for elementary school.
Use the ACPE Text to connect adventure activities to learning outcomes that support state level and national level standards.
Explore curriculum themes by grade level and apply age-appropriate assessment and reflection tools.
Gain tools to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
